Many web domain hosting companies offer service to get the domain name and the hosting account in a combo package. These can be a shared plan, reseller or VPS account. You may find a need to upgrade or change hosting services in the future, If this is the case, then it may be better to keep your domain at a service like GoDaddy, and just point it to your hosting account like HostMonster.
If you're looking for the best hosts out there offering you the right amount of bang for your buck, your best bet is to start searching online user reviews. Don't focus on those sponsored reviews. Look more at blogs, forums, and personal websites. There's a lot of web hosting reselling going on out there, and this will skew the results. Look for honest, unbiased reviews and figure out which web hosts are the best for your intended purposes.
Per Chip (and my own research) those base services don't include things like backing up and archiving my data, installing and upgrading applications, or even testing my applications for compatibility. They don't include security Cloudways patching firewall services anti-virus software or the use of redundant servers. They don't include user management. They don't include 24/7 support. Amazon offers these, and many other services. But all are at an extra charge. Chip says that when you add the cost of these services to EC2's base price, the annual expenses are much closer, if not even a little higher, than using a typical managed desktop company like Independence IT.
Augustine found the performance to be as good as any Web-connected software. "We do all of our work through a browser using a remote desktop connection," she said. "I don't remember the last time we had any network problems." In fact, she feels that her business has minimized the risk of downtime, both internally and for her clients. Without hosting, if her server got into trouble or click here her Internet service shut down, no one could do work. Today even if her office were to go dark, her employees and clients would still be able to work with their data as long as they found an Internet connection somewhere else.
So is hosting the way to go for small companies? For many, like Augustine, it's a great idea and one that will grow even more over the coming years. And you'd think by reading to this point I'd be a convert. But I'm not sold on this kind of service for my business. Surprised? Not as surprised as that client of mine back in 1986 when he got a huge tax bill because I forgot to include a few deductions he had.
But the disadvantage is the price that you pay for this extra space and bandwidth and the price will depend on the size of the server that you are buying. A dedicated server is a must for you if you expect your site to have really massive traffic loads and some people run many websites on their own dedicated server.
So, the next time someone attempts to prove that their cloud hosting service is secure, available and private by citing some OTHER company's audit report, my advice is to take your business elsewhere. If that's not practical, then insist that the vendor extend the right for you to perform an independent audit of their operations. By doing so, you'll protect your company's interests and help to make the cloud computing marketplace more mature and responsive.
